Hello. Apologies for not writing in Lithuanian. My wife's great-grandfather lived before WW2 in Alsiai, Lithuania. Below his photograph in cavalry uniform at his late 20s or early 30's. I wonder what was his military rank? If he was an officer is there a military archive in Lithuania that stores military files of the officers?

Also below a photo of apparently Lithuanian unknown cavalrymen. Any idea where these barracks at the background might be? Any thoughts about the uniforms? I'd be grateful for any suggests.

first photo - square on the collar does not ring a bell for me... I guess he was of some NCO rank;
second photo - I am not sure, but the buildings in the background look like the barracks in Šančiai, Kaunas:




IMO uniforms are from the early stage of Lithuanian Army - before 1923 (Model 1920?).

Danas- many thanks. These barracks indeed look very similar so you might be right.

As for the collar at the first photo I looked into a book "Armies of the Baltic
Independence Wars 1918–20". None of the shown collars in the book have similar collar- strange.

Mįslė. Susidūriau su prieškario Lietuvos kariuomenės kepure su neaiškia kokarda. Kam teko matyti kažką panašaus? Kokardos forma primena carinės Rusijos kokardas.

Kepurė atrasta Vokietijoje, todėl svarstau įvairias versijas nuo teatrinio rekvizito iki 2PK savisaugos.
